I’m at my parents house for the Holidays and I stumbled across a book I read last Spring. I open the cover and I find some scraps of paper that, in retrospect, represent the whirlwind mess I was last year. Funny I found them in this book titled A Place in the World. I say last year, but actually we’re talking about months, but it feels like two different lives. Last year I didn’t know what my place in the world was and I was desperate to find out what it was.
GOODBYE 2016, BRING ON 2017!
The first scrap of paper was a history lesson my friend Claudio gave me on the Royal Family at the National Portrait Gallery just before leaving London in 2015. Same as the main character of the book – Michele, I found I was stuck and didn’t know what to do or where to go, so I came back home in the hope for some clarity. The other scrap of paper read some make up artistry schools in Milan cause I thought maybe that’s what I wanted to be. The only clarity I found was that Milan was not my place but at the same time I didn’t know what to do or where to be. Like Michele, all I could do was to take a risk and leave again. My Cabo Verde was London, again.
Fast forward to the first day of 2017 and finding this book made me think about all that I accomplished last year and goals I’d like to achieve.
In 2016 I travelled at least once a month. I lost 10kg which is something I never thought I’d be able to do. I went to the gym almost 5 days a week the whole year and *whisper it* actually enjoyed it! Although I haven’t been as strict with my Capsule Wardrobe I managed to extend the principle of ‘buying less and use more’ to my makeup collection too. I managed to learn about SEO more and managed to score two jobs because of it. Finally I actually started saving money towards my dream of buying a flat I can call my own.
I realise that with all these changes in my life last year, this blog has taken a step back. For this year I’d like to be more consistent and post more regularly. Although I live in the tiniest room on earth, I would like to improve on my photography and maybe invest in better lighting. And finally up my social media game, engage with others more and maybe show my face once in a while.
Losing the finals 5kg and eat healthier since the last couple of months I’ve been slacking a bit in that respect.
Keep traveling once a month and explore new places. Paris is first on the list, a little birthday present to myself, Ireland, Cotswolds, Scotland and Copenhagen are but a few of the places I’d like to visit this year.
Do you have any New Years Resolutions?
