Last week I am went to Oxford for the weekend, yet again and here’s what was in my make up bag.
I have the tendency to ‘over-pack’ when it comes to make up knowing that I’ll be very likely to end up just putting on some mascara and foundation. Ironic, but I like to know I have options if I want to make more of an effort.
I don’t have a massive make up collection to start with as I brought to London an edited version of my collection that lives in Milan, and when I go somewhere for a few days I like to bring with me the products I’m loving at the moment. An edit of the edit if it makes sense.
I don’t tend to be too adventurous when it comes to complexion cause I like my make up to be light-weight, as if I am not wearing any make up. Not much has changed from last year’s edit but there has been a few swaps and new additions. After years of using the Laura Mercier Hydrating Primer I decided to swap to the Marc Jacobs Under(Cover) Perfecting Coconut Face Primer which I surprisingly prefer over the Laura Mercier. I find it nicer to use on the skin as it has this serum-like texture which feels more hydrating and long lasting than the Laura Mercier, I like to think it’s due to the coconut water. For any of you who do not like the scent of coconut, fear not, this is completely scent-free.
Another new discovery has been the NYX Dark Circle Concealer. Before finding this one the Bobbi Brown Corrector was my go-to product but if you don’t have cash to splurge, the NYX is a great contender. For more than 10£ less, the NYX Concealer does exactly what it says on the tin. It’s light weight which I enjoy, and it feels hydrating on the delicate skin of the eye too, so no clinging to any fine lines you might have. On top of that I went back to an old favourite Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer in 010 Ivory to brighten the under-eye area.
Together with the Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balms living in my coat pockets, I like to carry around some bold lip options. I am a lover of liquid lipsticks and I am always on the hunt for one that can dethrone the Kat Von D Liquid Lipstick. I finally found THE ONE. The Smith & Cult Tainted Lip Stain it’s where its at. Liquid lipsticks have the tendency to feel a bit dry, especially if matte, but the Smith & Cult feels velvety soft on the lips, the colour is gorgeous and it is long lasting *insert tons heart eyed emojis and hands raised in prayer*
I never thought I could pull purple off but I was proven wrong. Before leaving my job my lovely colleagues got me the Tom Ford Lips and Boys Lipstick in Drake. Let’s take a moment to appreciate the sassy name. It’s really moisturising and quite pigmented so I like to wear it patted on my lips to have more of a subtle effect. Very on trend, it’s a nice change for when I don’t feel like wearing a classic red but don’t want a nude either.
I am off to Amsterdam the next weekend and I am pretty sure, my makeup bag would still look exactly like this!
