Photo Diary: Truffle Season

Vines at La Morra

Dried Fruit at Alba's Tasting Market

Oh how I love to travel, even if it’s just a 1hour journey on a train, there’s nothing I love more. If you haven’t heard cause you’re not following me on my social media – which you should!- this weekend I went to visit some friends of mine in Turin and we made plans to take advantage of truffle season and basically just eat. Isn’t it just the best plan in the world? So here are a few snippets of what we got up to and especially what went in our belly.

Hills of Vines

The highlight of the weekend has definitely been going to a little town called La Morra to have lunch at this inn called L’Eremo della Gasprina. The road there from Turin was just awesome when got off the motorway all you could see was just a see of hills covered in red and yellow vineyards which I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many in my life, it was just breathtakingly beautiful.

White Truffle and Poached Egg

The food…I LOVE truffle, I’d bathe in it if I could so feel free to picture me as a drooling Homer for the rest of this post – ok?! Good so….We set down at 1pm and got up at almost 5pm, so you can imagine the amount of food. We got 4 entrées, 2 first courses, 2 second courses (which I honestly couldn’t fit), and 2 desserts – hence why there was no place for second course, I am one of those people that checks the dessert section of the menu to make decisions… White Truffle and Tajarin

We didn’t get truffle on every course cause if we did we’d probably still be there washing the dishes to pay our bill, but we went according to tradition and got it on top of poached eggs and tajarin – a typical kind of pasta from Piedmont. The desserts were mascarpone with a heart of dark chocolate and coffee cream and oven-cooked pears with red wine. The wine was amazing too, I wished I got a bottle to take home, or two….I love wine too, if you couldn’t tell! We then walked it off in Alba, where we bought some more truffle based goodies and got to taste some dried fruits, which I thought I’d hate but ended up kind of liking it.

Mascarpone Dessert with a Heart of Dark Chocolate and Coffee Cream

I’ll stop rambling about food now, cause I didn’t even think I could ramble that much about something that wasn’t coffee. If you want to see the beauty side of my weekend, you can have a look at my makeup bag  and let me know what you think in the comments.
