Every mom has a secret recipe that makes the whole family and friends happy. Most people in my life, and certainly all in my family, have a thing for sweets and whenever my mom gets baking these are at most requested.
Admittedly, they’re not the healthiest option one could have but it does make a nice treat which I don’t think needs changing if you keep it for special occasions. Typical from Turin, my mom decided these would make a nice gift to bring my friends in Turin when I’m going visiting this weekend – I hope they won’t be reading this….If you are just act surprised when I give them to you ok?!
If you are planning to give it a try, make sure to have time to do so as you need one day to prepare the dough and one to actually get baking.
- 200g toasted ground hazelnut
- 250g softened unsalted butter
- 250g sugar
- 400g white flour
- 1tbs of potato starch and corn flour
Ground the hazelnut to create a soft and oily cream. In a bowl, mix the hazelnut with all the other ingredients – but Nutella – cover with clingfilm and keep in the fridge for one day.
Turn on the oven at 200°C for a few minutes before turning it down to 180°C. Cover your baking tray with baking paper and get rolling some balls – if you want to get OCD with it you can use a watermelon scoop – make sure to give them a base, they should be like semi spheres. Place them on the tray leaving 1cm between each and bake for 18 minutes. Always make sure to keep an eye on them, when they get golden on the top it’s time to get them out. Leave to cool down and when ready, get your Nutella ready and use it as a glue to put the two halves together. Put them in the fridge if you want the chocolate to really stick.
