I am by no means a fashionista, if you happen to meet me in the street probably fashion would be the last thing you’d imagine I’d be interested in. But I am actually a big sucker for fashion documentaries and reality tv shows. So of course when I saw there was a new fashion documentary in town I had to watch it.
Dior is one, if not THE favourite designer of mine. I like the whole aesthetic and choice of celebrities endorsements, so I was really curious to see how this movie was going to be.
Shot at the heart of Christian Dior fashion house, the film gives a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of Raf Simons’ first haute couture collection as Di0r new artistic director. The documentary covers all. Raf and his collaborators’ creative process, the overlapping with past given by extracts from Monsieur Dior’s diary, the stress of everyday life in the atelier, and the emotions of the final catwalk. I found that the focus, even if not obvious, on the emotions was what made this documentary special. You get so involved in the whole conception of the collection that when the actual catwalk takes place you feel like you, yourself, gave birth to the magnificence you are witnessing.
